Especially those long haul flights when all I have to do is sleep, eat and watch movies. Keeping myself busy makes me less anxious about the flight and allows me to relax before arriving to the destination and start exploring. It’s important to not focus too much on the flight itself, but to think ahead of the amazing things you’ll see.
Before flying, make sure you check-in and pick your spot. If you are into views form the plane, then make sure to take a spot by the window, otherwise, I make sure I pick a spot that allows me to go to the toilet without bothering too many people.
With each long-haul flight that I take, I learn more and bring with me more things. On my first flight to Hong Kong I relied solely on the in-flight kit provided by the airline. On my flight to Japan, I came more prepared – brought makeup remover wipes, wet wipes, 1 set of clothing to change during the layover. I would take a brief bathroom break and clean my face, change clothes and brush my hair and feel ready and refreshed for the next leg of the journey (the long haul flight). Until the layover, there have been several tiring hours of travelling to the airport, waiting plus the first leg of the journey.
On my next long haul flight, I plan on bringing even more into my carry-on to make my transition smooth. Planes are drying and cold (link to article), so you’ll want to make sure that you keep yourself warm and not catch a cold, as well as keeping yourself hydrated (inside and outside). This is where a light carding and scarf will help you stay warm. Don’t forget to drink lots of water (that’s why you should choose a spot where you can easily go to the toilet) and moisturize your face (sheet mask) and hands (hand cream).[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Electronics:
- Phone
- Tablet
- Earphones (even though you will have in the in-flight kit)
- Power Pack (you don’t want to run out of batter when you land)
Beauty:
- Makeup remover wipes with micellar water
- Wet wipes
- Deodorant
- Perfume
- Sheet mask
- Hair brush
- Hand cream
- Hand sanitizer
- Handkerchiefs
Others:
- 1 Set of clothing (tee, underwear, socks)
- Light cardigan
- Scarf
- Neck pillow
How did you get through your first long haul flight?[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”3946″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Ah! Long flights are something I always dread. So far, my longest flight has been from Dubai to Toronto but we had a stopover at Amsterdam for a few hours. These are some great tips for coping with long flights.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken a long haul flight but I always end up focusing on keeping myself entertained when I pack. Good suggestions thanks.
Great tips. I actually find long haul flights easier than short haul, maybe it’s a mindset thing of knowing they’re going to be long and just finding a good film to enjoy.
I love long haul flights I find them part of the holiday but ask me again when I take a toddler on one and I may change my mind!
Top tips especially about prepping for the layover with what you pack in your carry on and genius re. packing a sheet mask! I find the addition of a good book from dutyfree is a great addition if I run out of battery – old school!
Thanks for sharing!

I’ve never flown long haul so wouldn’t have even thought about some of these items. I really love the idea of taking a sheet mask.
Great tips on things to pack. I always just try and watch as many films as I can on a long flight.
I haven’t been on a long haul flight for years but we are hoping to go to NYC soon so will definitely need to refer to this 🙂 x
These are excellent tips and I totally agree on carrying a change of clothing and tooth brush. I also carry a shawl as I get really cold on the aeroplanes.
